We started SHOOP because we noticed something: everyone wants to dance. Not everyone feels like they can.

SHOOP Silent Disco exists to change that. We create the permission — headphones on, judgement off — and let people find their own dance, together. Whether it's a team that needs to move past talking and into trust, a group of friends who just want to feel something, or a room full of strangers about to become friends, we build the moment and step back so it can happen.

Catherine Wilks

SHOOP Silent Disco is founded by Catherine Wilks, a facilitator with over 25 years' experience bringing people together through movement, play, and honest connection. Catherine trained originally as a dancer, in Contemporary and Ballet, and across every role since — from community dance to corporate facilitation — the thread has stayed the same: it was never really about the movement itself, but about what happens between people when they move together.

She began training and working in Developmental Movement Play 25 years ago, exploring how movement and play shape the nervous system — work that sits at the heart of how SHOOP sessions are designed to help people genuinely reconnect, not just perform enjoyment.

Born in the UK, SHOOP has found its home in Kuala Lumpur, where Catherine now lives with her family — a move that also brought her back to her own Malaysian roots. Moving countries and starting again in an unfamiliar place has its own way of teaching you about stepping into the unknown — which turns out to be exactly what happens when someone puts the headphones on for the first time.

We run Teamwork sessions, Silent Disco Hire, and Open Classes across Kuala Lumpur — non-verbal, alcohol-free, and built entirely around one idea: turns out we all want to dance.
